It was sung in 1901 by delegates during the 5º world Zionist Congress.
Initially obstacled by hortodoxes beacause of its laicty, was adopted by zionist movement only in 1933.
In 1948 it become the national anthem de facto, but it was proclamed officialy in year 2004.
The words were written in 1886 by Naphtali Herz Imber, an English poet originally from Bohemia.
The melody was written by Samuel Cohen, an immigrant from Moldavia.
